Mayo Clinic alumni to perform in Berlin in June with World Doctors Orchestra
Two Mayo Clinic physicians will play in concert on June 30, 2018, in Berlin, Germany, along with physicians from other countries, as part of the World Doctors Orchestra. Allen Bishop, M.D. (MED ’81, OR ’86), Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and Rafael Jimenez, M.D. (APATH ’08), Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, will participate on oboe and violin, respectively, at the Berliner Philharmonie, a concert hall near Potsdamer Platz.
Before traveling to Berlin, the physicians will play in World Doctors Orchestra concerts in Hamburg on June 27 and 28.
The World Doctors Orchestra was founded in 2007 and combines the pleasure of fine music with global medical responsibility. Three times a year, some 100 physicians from all over the world exchange their stethoscopes for evening attire and perform benefit concerts for medical aid projects.
Other Mayo Clinic members of the World Doctors Orchestra include Shelley Cross, M.D. (N ’82), Department of Neurology, Mayo Clinic in Rochester — cello; Benn Smith, M.D. (N ’90), Department of Neurology, Mayo Clinic in Arizona — French horn; and Moses Rodriguez, M.D. (N ’83), Department of Neurology, Mayo Clinic in Rochester — trombone.
