Mayo Clinic – University of Oxford – Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust collaboration

In September 2017 Mayo Clinic, the University of Oxford and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formed a strategic relationship to drive advances in medical research, education and patient care. This formal link between culturally aligned, recognized leaders in health care and education will underpin academic and clinical collaboration in a number of domains. Together, Mayo Clinic and Oxford will leverage their respective expertise to improve patient care, catalyze scientific discoveries, and educate health care providers and researchers of the future.

As part of the broader strategic relationship, Mayo Clinic and Oxford University Clinic have formed a joint venture to operate a clinic in central London, opening in early 2019. The clinic will provide leading-edge general medicine and preventive screening and diagnostics outside the National Health Service, leveraging Mayo’s evidence-based protocols and the deep bench of specialist knowledge at all three institutions. The clinic will be staffed initially by four physicians, two on long-term assignment from Mayo Clinic and two hired directly by the joint venture.

Mayo Clinic and Oxford also plan additional areas of collaboration, including joint research; exchange of students and faculty; and practice pilots focused on leading quality, integration, efficiency and outcomes. Details on these projects will be announced in the coming months.

Stephen Cassivi, M.D. (TS ’02), medical director, and John Osborn, administrator, discuss the relationship and the London clinic with the hosts of Mayo Clinic Radio.
