Allan Bieber, Ph.D., and Robert Cattaneo, Ph.D., receive Teacher of Year awards from Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences presented Teacher of the Year awards to Allan Bieber, Ph.D. (N ’01), and Robert Cattaneo, Ph.D. (MMED ’99).

Dr. Bieber is associate director of the Neurobiology of Disease Program in the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and an associate professor of neurology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Students who nominated him for the award noted how his care and passion for mentoring goes beyond the classroom. “You can go to him without reservation for any questions that might arise throughout your graduate degree,” and “He drops everything and tries to help the best he can. He is always available, approachable and willing to make time for students and give honest and helpful advice. He has dedicated his career to molding students into future impactful research pioneers. Through his guidance, he is helping to define the future of science.”

Dr. Cattaneo has joint appointments in the departments of Molecular Medicine and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He is a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Students who nominated Dr. Cattaneo for the award say he always has time for a few minutes of wisdom; strives to foster ongoing scientific discussion; and is genuinely concerned about the people in his lab and their science, believing that strong work comes from a happy work environment.
