Residents Ebner, Johnson & Oblizajek receive Mayo Clinic School of Medicine Golden Stethoscope Award

Mayo Clinic School of Medicine third- and fourth-year students at all Mayo Clinic campuses select residents and fellows to receive the Golden Stethoscope Award. Students recognize these residents and fellows for their outstanding commitment to medical student education. The 2018 recipients are Derek Ebner, M.D. (I ’19), Katie L. Johnson, M.D. (MED ’16, PD ’19), and Nicholas Oblizajek, M.D. (I ’19).

Dr. Ebner is a second-year resident in the Department of Medicine at Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester. He is working toward a career in gastroenterology.

Students who nominated him said, “We’ve seen his positive interactions with every member of the health care team in demonstration of the Mayo Clinic ideals, and “We look forward to coming in for hospital rotations because of the environment Dr. Ebner creates.”

Dr. Johnson is a second-year resident in the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester. She hopes to pursue a career in general pediatrics and a fellowship in child abuse pediatrics.

Students said about her: “She is patient, kind, selfless and a fantastic teacher,” and “Dr. Johnson is truly dedicated and committed to her patients and to teaching medical students and puts their needs first.”

Dr. Oblizajek is a second-year resident in the Department of Medicine at Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester.

Students who nominated him for the award said, “We cannot thank you enough for imparting us with knowledge, work ethic and positive attitude,” and “You have prepared us well for the journey through medicine ahead.”
