Yu Shi, M.D., receives FAER grant
Yu Shi, M.D. (ANES ’11), Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology, Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Mayo Clinic Rochester, received a FAER (Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research) grant for his research project “Longitudinal Assessment of Affect, Behavior and Cognition in Children Undergoing General Anesthesia.”
Surgery in infants and children is thought to have short- and long-term effects on cognition and behavior. In this study 100 children ages 2-1/2 to 6 will be assessed with standard behavioral and cognitive methods and new constructs, laying the foundation for a larger, definitive clinical trial and testing the idea that family functioning moderates postoperative behavioral change in children.
Dr. Shi is an assistant professor of anesthesiology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
