Mayo Clinic announces Advance the Practice Research Awards

Mayo Clinic announced recipients of 2019 Advance the Practice Research Awards. Criteria for selection of projects include medical need and commercialization potential. Other important include readiness for translation, impact on clinical practice, and strength of the research team and its collaborators.

The 17 winning projects were selected from among 56 submitted. Each winning project receives an award of up to $50,000 as well as project management and subject matter expertise from Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS) Office of Translation to Practice. The projects will address unmet clinical needs of patients through the development of novel therapeutics, devices, diagnostics or other products; or through the development and implementation of novel practice initiatives.

The awards are an initiative of the Office of Translation to Practice, in collaboration with Mayo Clinic Venture, research leadership in Arizona and Florida, the Department of Medicine and Department of Orthopedic Surgery in Rochester, and the Department of Surgery in Arizona.

“We’d like to thank our partners for their support of the 2019 APRA program and especially thank the dozens of investigators who took the time to submit their innovative proposals for consideration,” said Andrew Badley, M.D. (I ’94, INFD ’97), director of the Office of Translation to Practice. “The teams that were successful in this round represent some of the best and brightest at Mayo, and the projects they propose have a high chance of meaningfully impacting our patients and our practice.”
