1925 - 2019

Frank Ubel Jr., M.D. (I ’54)

Age 94, died on January 9, 2019 Frank was lifelong resident of Saint Paul, attending St. Luke’s, St. Thomas Military Academy, The College of St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota Medical School. Frank served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, after which he completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Following private practice in Internal Medicine, Frank spent 22 years with 3M, ultimately serving as Medical Director. Frank’s leadership resulted in significant advances in the areas of toxicology and industrial hygiene, especially with respect to issues of worker health and safety. He served as President of the American Academy of Occupational Medicine and was a member of the Twin Cities Serra Club. Preceded in death by his parents Frank A. Sr. and Mary (Mullaney) and sister Jean. Survived by his wife of 62 years Genevieve “Gix” and their four children: Catharine (Hoyt) Nye, Andy (Meg), Peter (Paula) and Fr. John Ubel; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth, Will, John (Natalie), Cameron, Erik, Elsa, Jordan, and Taylor. Special thanks to the outstanding caregivers at Carondelet Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial 10AM Saturday, January 12 at the Church of the Nativity of our Lord, Stanford at Prior, Saint Paul. Visitation at church 1 hour before the Mass. Memorials preferred to Nativity Church or Nativity School Scholarship Fund.
