Naser Ammash, M.D. (CVCH ’95), named CEO, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Naser Ammash, M.D. (CVCH ’95), has been named CEO of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, the medical center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This medical center will be operated through the newly formed joint venture between Mayo Clinic and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA). The hospital will operate under the name of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in partnership with Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Ammash will be accountable for the collaboration between Mayo Clinic and SEHA, and will be responsible for developing and executing strategic and operating plans to transform Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City into an international destination for patients with serious or complex medical conditions — increasing the global reach of Mayo Clinic.

In his most recent role, Dr. Ammash is a physician by joint appointment in the Mayo Clinic divisions of Structural Heart Disease and Cardiovascular Ultrasound. He joined the Cardiovascular Department in 1995 and is a professor of medicine and has master’s faculty privileges in clinical and translational sciences in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Dr. Ammash has held several other leadership roles during his time at Mayo Clinic, including vice chair for the Cardiovascular Ultrasound Laboratory, chair of the Clinical Practice Committee for the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases, vice chair for Clinical Practice in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases, vice chair for Clinical Practice in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, and chair of the Enterprise Cardiovascular Clinical Practice Committee. More recently, he was one of the physician leaders in the planning and activation of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.

Dr. Ammash will be based in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Ammash attended medical school at American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Lebanon. He is fluent in English, French and Arabic.
