Leslie Ray Matthews, M.D., helps high school football player with patented vitamin D3 treatment for TBI

Leslie Ray Matthews, M.D. (CCMS ’04), pioneered a treatment that has helped a high school football star with blunt traumatic injury with severe bleeding to the brain stem. The treatment is high-dose vitamin D3 for traumatic brain injury patients. Dr. Matthews was awarded the first U.S. patent for the treatment of concussions and traumatic brain injuries using high-dose vitamin C. Dr. Matthews, who recently retired, saw the patient as an outside consultant at an Atlanta-area hospital. After hospital and rehabilitation facility stays, the patient was discharged home.
