Irbaz Riaz, M.B.B.S. (HEMO ’20, CTSA ’23), Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, received a 2023 Collaborative Research Seed Grant Program in the Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University Alliance for Health Care for the project “Automating Data Extraction from Electronic Health Records and Reasoning to Assist Treatment Decision-Making for Prostate Cancer.” Each research team includes a principal investigator from Mayo Clinic and ASU and will receive funding of up to $80,000. With the goal of advancing research, improving patient care and reshaping medical education, the alliance’s seed grant program provides fertile ground for research on a small scale, with the potential to attract funding for larger studies that can significantly improve patient care. Dr. Riaz is an assistant professor of medicine and oncology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
