Steven Messina, M.D.

Steven Messina, M.D. (RD ’19), has been named the new division chair of Neuroradiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Dr. Messina brings extensive Radiology leadership experience to this position including his current role as medical director of Magnetic Resonance (MR) operations. With his leadership, MR Operations continues to meet strong and growing patient demand while both supporting the practice and innovating in partnership with the MR technologist and support teams. Dr. Messina succeeds Larry Eckel, M.D. (I1 ’00, RD ’04, RNEU ’05), who had been division chair since 2020. Dr. Eckel has been a tireless leader of Neuroradiology, supporting and mentoring his colleagues. He brought in talented and motivated neuroradiologists, and advanced research and innovation while providing the best educational experience for residents and fellows.
