Rudolf Juchems Research Award 2026
Nomination deadline: March 31, 2026
For a recent or ongoing scientific project in any field of medicine or related disciplines. Eligible projects must have been conducted at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Scottsdale, or Jacksonville by a German-speaking alumna or alumnus. Collaborative projects carried out in cooperation with departments of the Mayo Clinic will also be considered.
The award is endowed with unrestricted prize money of 1,000 euros. The awardee is expected to accept the prize in person at the Annual Meeting of the Mayo Alumni German Speaking Chapter and to present the awarded work. This year’s annual meeting will take place in Munich, Germany, from June 26 to June 28, 2026.
This annual award was established by cardiologist Rudolf Juchems, MD, PhD (†2008). Professor Juchems completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester in the 1950s before returning to Germany, where he worked in Würzburg and Aschaffenburg. The award aims to increase the visibility of the Mayo Alumni German Speaking Chapter and to encourage young colleagues returning from their training or research stay at the Mayo Clinic to remain engaged with the Chapter.
The Mayo Alumni German Speaking Chapter is a network of German-speaking physicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals who share common values and experiences gained during their training at the Mayo Clinic. The Chapter holds annual meetings in Germany, Switzerland, or Austria, combining an interdisciplinary scientific program with cultural activities and ample opportunities for professional exchange and networking.
Selection of the award-winning project is at the discretion of the Chapter’s Board. Colleagues wishing to apply are invited to submit an abstract of their project by March 31, 2026. Submissions should include a short curriculum vitae and, where applicable, relevant publications associated with the project. Applications should be sent to the Chairman, Kajetan von Eckardstein, MD (kvoneckardstein@westpfalz-klinikum.de). Please do not hesitate to contact the Chairman with any questions regarding the award or membership in the Chapter.
