Dr. Akiko Chiba is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Duke University Medical Center in the department of surgical oncology. She joined as a faculty in 2022. She completed her Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 2016. Dr. Chiba has a strong interest in clinical and translational research focusing in breast cancer. She has a passion for treating young women with breast cancer as well as those with genetic mutation and women with increased risk of breast cancer.
Her research interest includes breast microbiome, surgical techniques such as nipple-sparing mastectomy, and genetic mutation/high risk patients. Dr. Chiba has written numerous peer-review journal in the field of breast cancer and is a fellow of American College of Surgeons, committee member of national organizations including American Society of Breast Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology and Association of Women Surgeons.
