Awards
Charles H. Mayo, M.D., said, “Medicine gives only to those who give, but her reward for those who serve is ‘finer than much fine gold.’” Think of your colleagues who serve in the field of medicine and consider nominating them for the following Mayo Clinic Alumni Association awards:
Patient Care
- Humanitarian Awards acknowledge significant contributions — beyond any volunteer service to Mayo — by alumni to the welfare of a community, country or humanity.
- Professional Achievement Awards acknowledge contributions by alumni in the clinical, research, educational or administrative fields.
- Early and Mid-Career Alumni Awards acknowledge contributions by alumni working in their area of expertise for 10 to 15 years and provide encouragement for hard work and dedication to Mayo Clinic values.
The Plummer Society and the Priestley Society present awards that honor excellence and unique contributions to Internal Medicine and Subspecialties and to Surgery and Surgical Subspecialties, respectively.
Education and Research
The Association also awards excellence among its trainees, including the:
- Donald C. Balfour Research Award is awarded in recognition of outstanding research by a Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education resident or fellow whose primary training is in a clinical field.
- Edward C. Kendall Research Award is awarded in recognition of outstanding research conducted by an individual whose primary appointment is in research.
Distinguished Service
The Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees established the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni Award in 1981 to acknowledge and show appreciation for the exceptional contributions of Mayo alumni to the field of medicine, including medical practice, research, education and administration. The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes the outstanding attributes and accomplishments of individuals who have served at high levels in all aspects of their respective fields and the individuals who have received the award have been recognized nationally and often internationally in their fields.
