Ali Duarte-Garcia, M.D. (RHEU ’18), a resident in the Division of Rheumatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, has been named a 2017 Kern Scholar.

The Kern Scholars Program, sponsored by Mayo Clinic’s Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Center for the Science of Healthcare Delivery, trains clinicians to use tools from applied sciences to rigorously assess and improve patient-centered outcomes and health care delivery systems.

Dr. Duarte-Garcia’s research focuses on exploring the comparative effectiveness of biologic medications in multiple inflammatory arthritides. He plans to identify the best practices to deliver rheumatologic care that is efficient, safe and cost effective by using the resources of the OptumLabs collaboration and knowledge synthesis methodology such as network meta-analysis.
