Amanika Kumar, M.D. (GYNO ’16), Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, received a 2023 Decentralized Clinical Trials award from the Mayo Clinic Decentralized Clinical Trials team, in partnership with Research and the Clinical Trials Strategy and Governance team. This initiative aims to establish digital products, personnel and processes to support research teams. Dr. Kumar’s project, “Home-Based Prehabilitation Before Complex Gynecologic Oncology Surgery at a Destination Surgical Practice,” will investigate whether remote prehabilitation before complex oncologic surgery at a destination surgical practice can be implemented alongside standard tumor-directed surgery. She will investigate whether remote prehabilitation will improve function and quality of life, and reduce morbidity and mortality, as determined by a remote functional assessment. This study will target underserved populations with barriers to accessing cancer care, specifically gynecologic oncology. Dr. Kumar is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
