Cornelius Thiels, D.O. (S ’19), received the Simons Family Career Development Award, Mayo Clinic Rochester

Cornelius Thiels, D.O. (S ’19), Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreas Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, received the Simons Family Career Development Award in Surgical Innovation for his proposal “Surgical AI/ML Initiative Aimed at Establishing a Sustainable and Scalable AI/ML Program in Surgery.” One award of $100,000 a year for up to three years is given with preference to innovative proposals focused on procedures, practices or processes occurring in the operating room environment and that programmatically align with the supporting infrastructure available through the Center for Surgical Innovation. Dr. Thiels is an assistant professor health services research and surgery in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
