Daniel Schaid, Ph.D., is enterprise chair, Mayo Clinic Department of Health Sciences Research

Daniel Schaid, Ph.D. (MSEP ’86), is the new enterprise chair of the Mayo Clinic Department of Health Sciences Research. Dr. Schaid has been a member of the Mayo Clinic staff since 1986. He is a consultant in the Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics and Curtis L. Carlson Professor of Genomics Research at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Schaid is associate chair for academic affairs and faculty development in the Department of Health Sciences Research.

Dr. Schaid is an internationally recognized expert in statistical genetics and a fellow in the American Statistical Association. He has devoted his career to developing new statistical and computational methods for genetic analyses, many of which were motivated by his collaborations in human genetics studies including cancer, pharmacogenomics, response to vaccines, and neurologic and cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Schaid, a professor of biostatistics in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, succeeds James Cerhan, M.D., Ph.D. (MSEP ’98), who served in the role of department chair since 2012.
