Dennis Mays, Ph.D., receive awards from Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine

Dennis Mays, Ph.D. (MPET ’93), received the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Dean’s Recognition Award in recognition of his substantial contributions to graduate education, including dedicated service as a charter member of the office for diversity and the anchor and manager for the school’s NIH PREP and IMSD grants, NHLBI grants and numerous other activities. His efforts have had a great impact on Mayo’s diversity legacy in the last 15 years.

Dr. Mays also received the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine’s Dean’s Recognition Award for Diversity and Inclusion in honor of his outstanding contributions to furthering the school’s vision for recruitment and retention of diverse students while creating a learning environment that embraces diversity and inclusion. As program manager of diversity grants in the Office for Diversity in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science since 2005, Dr. Mays made extraordinary efforts to ensure the overwhelming success of the long-standing diversity research education grants. He also worked tirelessly to support students, including those traditionally underrepresented in medicine, to ensure they have opportunities at Mayo Clinic and feel welcomed and valued.

Dr. Mays is an assistant professor of molecular pharmacology and experimental therapeutics in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
