M. Dan Dragomir Daescu, Ph.D., Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, received a 2017 Biobusiness Award from Regenerative Medicine Minnesota.

Dr. Dragomir-Daescu’s project is a controllable and automated system for synthesizing GMP magnetic nanoparticles for regenerative medicine applications. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are biodegradable and biocompatible, and can be used for targeted drug or gene delivery.

Established in 2014 by the Minnesota legislature, Regenerative Medicine Minnesota is a publicly funded initiative to build on the state’s leadership position in the emerging regenerative medicine industry. The awards supply grants for projects to develop Minnesota businesses and technologies that deliver regenerative medicine products, devices and services.

Dr. Dragomir-Daescu also is an associate professor of biomedical engineering.
