Guillermo José Ruiz-Argüelles, M.D.

Guillermo José Ruiz-Argüelles, M.D., (HEMO ’83) has been recognized with the 2025 Carlos Slim Health Award – Research Career for his innovative contributions to the field of hematology. Dr. Ruiz-Argüelles is currently the director general of the Centro de Hematología y Medicina Interna de Puebla at Clínica Ruiz in Puebla, México. His research has focused on the development of hematopoietic stem cell transplants, highlighting the implementation of outpatient procedures that have improved the affordability of hematological, oncological and autoimmune diseases. Clínica Ruiz is a world pioneer in performing these transplants on an outpatient basis, having grafted above 2000 patients. Dr. Ruiz-Argüelles was awarded for his outstanding career and significant contributions to medical research over 42 years.
