Honor by the Hellenic Hippocratic Society for Alkis Pierides, M.D. (NEPH ’78)
Dear old MAYO colleagues and good friends, especially in Nephrology and Prof V Torress,
I thought I should sent you a typed note, regarding my recent honour by the Hellenic Hippocratic Society.
This Hellenic Hippocratic Society honours annually two distinguished Greek Doctors worldwide for their:
- a) Humanistic practice of medicine b) Continuous high quality research and c) Continuous post graduate medical education.
This year I was fortunate to be one of the two honoured physicians and the ceremony took place in Athens, on Saturday 5th of March.
My research interests currently centre around inherited kidney diseases with over 120 publications and numerous oral presentations in many Renal International Meetings. My interest in continuous post graduatemedical education covers mostly Cyprus and Greece with the organization of many educational meetings. In Greece we have established the Halcyon Days of Nephrology, an annual meeting held each year from 1999 to the present time.
Kind Regards,
Dr Alkis Pierides FRCP, FACP
Ex Director General, Dept. Nephrology NGH
Ex Associate Professor of Medicine-Nephrology, Mayo Clinic, USA
