Jaime de la Garza Salazar, M.D. (ONCL ’66), clinical research investigator at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerologia-Mexico received the 2022 l Dr. Jose Eleuterio Gonzalez medal, the highest distinction awarded by the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, in conjunction with the School of Medicine and the University Hospital. The award recognizes those who have excelled at the regional, national or international level based on their assistance, teaching and research works carried out exceptionally in the area of health and medicine for the benefit of society. Dr. de la Garza is the former president of the Mexican Oncology Society, founder and former president of the Mexican Oncology Board and former executive secretary of the Science Advisory Council for the Presidency of the Mexican He is considered the father of the use of chemotherapy in Mexico for the treatment of cancer.
