Jean-Pierre Kocher, Ph.D., directing new Mayo Clinic Data Science Program

Jean-Pierre Kocher, Ph.D. (NSCI ’03), will develop and direct a new Data Science Program at Mayo Clinic, which is led by the Department of Health Sciences Research in partnership with the Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery, Center for Individualized Medicine and Office of Information and Knowledge Management.

The Data Science Program will address the growing demand for data science expertise across the Mayo enterprise and will combine expertise in data mining, machine learning, computational engineering, statistics and bioinformatics to address big data challenges relevant to research and clinical practice. The Data Science Program will collaborate with Mayo’s strategic academic partners and strengthen its relationship with the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Arizona State University to expand methodological expertise at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Kocher previously served as chair of the Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics. He continues to serve as director of the Bioinformatics Core and the Bioinformatics Program in the Center for Individualized Medicine, and vice chair of Health Sciences Research on the Arizona campus and associate chair in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Arizona State University.
