Jonathan Baines, M.D., Ph.D., appointed co-director of Spirit of E.A.G.L.E.S.

Jonathan Baines, M.D., Ph.D. (MDPD ’04, TBIO ’04, PRES ’05, LABM ’06k FM ’09), Department of Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, was appointed co-director of Spirit of E.A.G.L.E.S., a National Cancer Institute-funded Special Populations Network. Spirit of E.A.G.L.E.S. also is referred to as the American Indian/Alaska Native Initiative on Cancer and focuses on increasing cancer awareness among trial Nations and organizations throughout the U.S. Dr. Baines will serve with co-director Judith Kaur, M.D. (ONCL ’94), Division of Hematology/Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Florida.

Spirit of E.A.G.L.E.S. will next focus on community-based participatory research opportunities to address culturally relevant education, training and research.

Dr. Baines is a member of the Alaska Tlingit and Tsimshian tribes. He also was recently appointed medical director of the Native C.I.R.C.L.E. within the Native American Programs umbrella of the Mayo Comprehensive Cancer Center.
