Juan Brito Campana, M.B.B.S., receives inaugural Cortese Innovation Award

Juan Brito Campana, M.B.B.S. (ENDO ’14), Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism, & Nutrition at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, received the inaugural Denis A. Cortese, M.D., and Donna H. Cortese Innovation Award in the Science of Health Care Delivery.

Dr. Brito Campana proposes to mine social media data to better  understand what diabetes patients want  from cost conversations with their health care providers. By flagging conversations on social medial related to this topic, he can determine how different demographics of patients feel, what they’re saying and what the most common phrases are.

Dr. Brito Campana also is an assistant professor of medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Dr. Cortese (I-1 ’71, I ’72, THD ’76) was president and CEO of Mayo Clinic from 2003 to 2009. The Cortese family grant seeks to develop, test and implement innovative solutions for health care delivery and is open to Mayo Clinic Kern Scholars Program alumni. Today Dr. Cortese is a foundation professor at Arizona State University (ASU) in the College of Health Solutions and the director of ASU’s Health Care Delivery and Policy Program.
