Robert Jenkins, M.D., Ph.D., received NIH R01 grant

Robert Jenkins, M.D., Ph.D. (PATH ’87), Division of Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, received a National Institutes of Health R01 grant, “(PQ3) Understanding the Interactions between Germline and Somatic Alterations in the Pathogenesis of Gliomas.”

The hypothesis is that mutations in the germline interact with mutations acquired by somatic cells to accelerate the development of a glioma. A future goal of the research will expand the study to clinical specimens and then translate these findings into patient care.

Dr. Jenkins is the Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Professor of Individualized Medicine Research and a professor of laboratory medicine and pathology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
