Shuai Leng, Ph.D. (RD ’08), Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, received an Innovation Accelerator Award from the Mayo Clinic Office of Translation to Practice for the project “Enhanced Assessment of Bone Marrow Pathology Using a Deep-Learning-Based Virtual Non-Calcium Technique in Multi-Energy CT.” The Innovation Accelerator Award program supports projects that aim to develop new technologies with commercialization potential, such as medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, small-molecule drugs, health care information technology, or other human health innovations, including practice initiatives. The program also seeks to accelerate the maturation of existing high-value opportunities by identifying and resolving technical and commercial risks. Medical need and commercial potential were key criteria in the selection of these projects, as well as readiness for translation, and the strength of the research team and collaborators. Dr. Leng is a professor of medical physics in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
