Suraj Kapa, M.D., named director, Virtual Reality Innovations group, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Mayo Clinic Rochester

Suraj Kapa, M.D. (I ’09), Division of Heart Rhythm Services, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, was named director of the department’s Virtual Reality Innovations group.

He will work on integrating medical images with augmented reality or virtual reality glasses or headsets, haptic feedback gloves and wearables, and remote effector arms to enable remote therapy delivery, and enhanced local care delivery by integrated echo/CT/MR images with reality at the time of procedures. The goal is to develop a virtual reality lab as a resource for the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and cardiovascular surgery.

Dr. Kapa is an assistant professor of medicine in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, and medical director for cardiology marketing and communications.
