Y.S. Prakash, M.D., Ph.D. (PHYS ’94, I1 ’03, ANES ’06), chair, Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, received an Innovation Accelerator Award from the Mayo Clinic Office of Translation to Practice for the project “Retinoic Acid-Induced Class C GPCRs for Lung Disease.” The Innovation Accelerator Award program supports projects that aim to develop new technologies with commercialization potential, such as medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, small-molecule drugs, health care information technology, or other human health innovations, including practice initiatives. The program also seeks to accelerate the maturation of existing high-value opportunities by identifying and resolving technical and commercial risks. Medical need and commercial potential were key criteria in the selection of these projects, as well as readiness for translation, and the strength of the research team and collaborators. Dr. Prakash is a professor of anesthesiology and physiology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
