Mayo Clinic announced the awardees of the 2021 Mayo Clinic/Karolinska Institutet Breast Cancer Research Collaborative Program. Awardees and their projects are:

Derek Radisky, Ph.D. (CBS ’05), chair, Department of Cancer Biology at Mayo Clinic in Florida; and Arne Östman, professor, Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet, “Exploration of Fibroblasts as Biologically Relevant Biomarkers in Breast Benign Disease”

Antonio D’Assoro, M.D., Ph.D. (BIOC ’06), Division of Oncology Research at Mayo Clinic in Rochester,; and Urban Lendahl, professor, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Karolinska Institutet, “Novel NOTCH3-Based Therapies to Inhibit the Growth and Immune Evasion Capacity of Triple Negative Breast Cancer”

The awarded grants are in response to an ongoing initiative designed to enhance collaborations in breast cancer research between the two institutions with a goal of making a global impact on cancer through research focusing on the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of breast cancer.
