Douglas Loberg, M.D. (ANES ’78, I ‘83)

Douglas J. Loberg, MD, 61, of Peoria passed away at 11:32 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at his residence.

Dr. Loberg was born on May 19, 1949, in Fargo, N.D., to Clifford and Marcella Bohlin Loberg. He married Vicky Hineman on May 27, 1978, at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Rochester, Minn.

He is survived by his mother of Wahpeton, N.D.; his wife, Dr. Vicky Loberg; and children, Katie of Chicago and Christopher of Peoria. He is also survived by his sisters, Joanne Tiffany (Jim) of San Diego and Mary Forsythe (Matt) of Boston; and his brothers, Bill (Debbie) of Wahpeton, N.D., Jeff (Dawn) of Sartell Minn., and Rich of Wahpeton, N.D.

His father; and one brother, Don, preceded him in death.

Dr. Loberg completed his education from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in medicine, and earned his medical doctor degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

He completed his residency at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., with a subspecialty in both internal medicine and anesthesiology.

Dr. Loberg joined the Associated Anesthesiologists, SC in 1986 and served on the executive committee, including as its president from 1994 to 1995. He was on active staff at Saint Francis Medical Center, Proctor Hospital, Saint James Hospital and the Center for Health.

He was the chairman of the Department of Anesthesia at Proctor Hospital. He was Board Certified in Anesthesiology. He was a member of Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Medical Association and Illinois Medical Association. He was a Fellow in the American College of Anesthesiology, the American Board of Anesthesiology, and a member and lector for many years at St. Thomas Church in Peoria Heights.

Dr. Loberg had a passion for scouting activities. He was an Eagle Scout and was honored as an adult for his exemplary service to the Boy Scouts with the prestigious St. George Medal and the Silver Beaver Award. He was Scout Master for Troop 28 for many years. He was serving as the diocesan chairman of the Catholic Committee on Scouting, since 1992.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at St. Thomas Church, 904 E. Lake Ave., Peoria Heights, IL 61616, with Msgr. William Watson and Father Glenn Harris will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. The Boy Scouts will stand honor guard. Additional visitation will be one hour before the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
