Obituary for Gerald Francis Tuohy, Bella Vista, AR

Gerald Francis Tuohy, M.D., peacefully passed away Friday, July 16, 2021, at Jamestown Nursing and Rehab in Rogers, Ark., after a long journey with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Rochester, Minn., the oldest of 15 children born to Joseph Francis Tuohy and Gertrude Cecilia Teresa Snyder. After attending Chatfield, Minn., public schools, he went to Loras College on a music scholarship and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Anesthesiology. He practiced his profession in various hospitals and retired at the age of 74. His ability to focus and attain a goal was impressive. He loved a challenge, be it professional or personal. His enthusiasm for flying and sailing took the family on many incredible adventures.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Peter Mark, Richard Paul, Edward Charles; his sisters, Patricia J., and Mary Suzanne; and his son, John Francis.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; and their children, David Andrew (Kristi); and his daughter, Anne Marie (Claus); his sons from his previous marriage to Margaret A Russo, Michael Joseph, Steven Edward (Jennifer), Richard Patrick (Anne Marie); 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; his siblings, Francis Joseph (Mike), John Patrick, Sara Eudora Carroll, Thomas Michael, James Leo, Margaret (Meg) Carolan, Bernard Stephen and Jeanne Marie Klabunde; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Chatfield, Minn., on August 7, 2021. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Lunch and a reception will follow the service. Interment will be at Bella Vista Memorial Gardens, Bella Vista, Ark., at a later date.
The family is very grateful for the excellent care provided by the staff at Brookfield Memory Care, Jamestown Nursing and Rehab, and Circle of Life Hospice.
