1940 - 2024

Harold Stine, M.D. (RD ’72)

26 OCTOBER, 1940 – 15 JANUARY, 2024

Harold Emerson Stine, 83, died on Monday, January 15th at his home in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Harold was born October 26, 1940, in South Bend, Indiana to Alton Earl and Catheryn Stine.
Harold was a graduate of Indiana University and the Indiana University School of Medicine. After earning a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctor of medicine degree, he served two years in the Air Force as a physician and then completed the Radiology Residency program at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He went on to lead a fulfilling and admirable career, contributing many years of his life to medical service in Green Bay, Wisconsin. His career as a physician suited him and in many ways defined him – he is well remembered for his diligence, intelligence, and tireless work ethic. He strongly believed in the value of education and encouraged his children and grandchildren in their educational achievements.

His successful career was possible with the love of his life and best friend by his side. He married Nancy (Sheets) Stine on June 9, 1962, in Bloomington, Indiana at the Indiana University Beck Chapel. Over the next six decades, they went on to build the family and home of their dreams from the ground up; he could not have been prouder of the family they created.

Outside of his passion for medicine and commitment to his family, Harold enjoyed nature. He led many family road trips to national parks, cherished retirement in his beloved mountain home, and enjoyed watching nature programs, which he infamously said allowed him to travel the world from his favorite chair. Tending to his lawn and landscaping brought him much joy. He was an avid football fan and remained fiercely loyal to the Green Bay Packers during his 20-year retirement in the Carolinas. He enjoyed jazz music, high-quality movies, and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge. He was well known for his witty sayings and testing the general knowledge of his family members.

Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy, and his much-loved children Stephen (Julie) Stine, Kimberly (Marc) Reichert, and Eric (Stacy) Stine. He is also survived by his eight beloved grandchildren, Katelyn, Alex, Emily, Isaac, Stephanie, Addison, Everett, and Cohen. The grandchildren brought joy and pride to their grandpa, and in turn he imparted many laughs and immeasurable wisdom.

A private family memorial service will be held lakeside in Wisconsin.
