John M. Saycich, M.D. (PD (’57)

Dr. John Michael Saycich, a long-time resident of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on January 11, 2017. John was born on October 15, 1925 to the late Anna Fink and John Sajcich in Anaconda, Montana. He attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana and graduated from St. Louis University Medical School in 1949. He served two years in the United States Air Force Medical Corps. He later completed a fellowship in pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He married Lillian Kocina in 1955. In 1961, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he was one of the founding physicians of the Children’s Clinic. He cared for many of the children of Las Vegas until his retirement in 1996. John’s greatest loves were playing the piano, painting, traveling Europe, tending his garden flowers, but more than anything, he loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lillian, his brother Gene Sajcich, and his children Joan (Don), John, James (Rosanne), David, and Suzanne, as well as twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother William and sister Elizabeth. John requested a private funeral with his immediate family. Condolences for the family may be offered online at www.palmnorthwest.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research.

To all of the children of Las Vegas who Dr. Saycich had the privilege of caring for during his career, the family wishes to thank you all. He truly loved each and every one of you.
