Kenneth Ghormley, M.D. (U ‘53)

KENNETH OWEN GHORMLEY, MD
It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth Owen Ghormley, MD note his passing on Good Friday, March 29, 2013. He was truly a kind and gentle man. Dr. Ghormley was born on August 16, 1921, in Tacoma, WA to Kenneth Irwin and Margaret Longstreth Ghormley and was preceded in death by his brother Hugh Ghormley of Houston, TX; he is survived by his brother Edward Ghormley of Oxnard and his sister Muriel Ghormley Krebbs of Santa Barbara.
Dr. Ghormley leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Gretchen Hartley Ghormley, as well as his two devoted sons, Barton Ghormley of Sonoma and Scott Ghormley of Laguna Beach. Dr. Ghormley received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School (during his 4 year enlistment in the US Navyat the end of World War II) and performed his Residency in Urology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He then moved the family to Redlands in 1954, where he practiced at the Beaver Clinic for 33 years before retiring in 1987. While chief of staff at Redlands Community Hospital, Dr.Ghormley was instrumental in the formation of the RCH Art Foundation, with which he remained an active participant until his death. Dr. Ghormley was also a strong supporter of Redlands Family Service, the A.K. Smiley Public Library and the Fortnightly Club. A memorial service honoring Dr. Ghormley’s wonderful life is being planned for Saturday, May 4th, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Redlands, at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to are asked to make a donation to Redlands Family Service or Smiley Public Library. Cortner Chapel, Funeral Directors. Cursum Perficio… “My Journey is over…”
