Marc Shampo, Ph.D. (PUBL ’62)

Dr. Marc A. Shampo, 94, of Rochester, died Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Hospital — Saint Marys Campus.

Marc was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Green Bay, Wis., to Norman and Antoinette (Rondou) Shampo. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. He taught high school science in Wisconsin and was a chemistry professor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. He then worked as a medical editor in publications at Mayo Clinic until his retirement. He was an author, avid reader, stamp collector, and football fan.

Marc is survived by his daughter, Terry (Lanny) Nelson of Forest Lake; stepsons, Chuck (Marlene) Mayhew of Kellogg, Scott (Kathy) Mayhew of Rochester; and two step sons-in-law, Bert Kyek, and Mike Capelle, both of Rochester. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; also by his brother, Bruce Shampo of Green Bay, Wis. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma; second wife, Lila; son, Marc; and stepdaughters, Nancy Kyek and Barb Capelle.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by Rochester American Legion Post #92.
