1989 - 2023

Michael Bies, D.O. (I ’19, PMR ’22, PAIN ‘23)

Michael Matthew ‘Mick’ Bies

Sept. 1, 1989 – Feb. 15, 2023

Michael Matthew “Mick” Bies, age 33, of Rochester, Minn., tragically passed Feb. 15, 2023. Mick was born in Omaha, Neb., to Michael and Kathleen (Dunn) Bies Sept. 1, 1989. He was welcomed home by his siblings, Dennis “Denny” and Jacqueline “Jackie” Bies.
At age 4, Mick and family moved west and settled in his beloved hometown of Tualatin, Ore. Growing up, Mick excelled in both sports and academics. Mick was an avid basketball and football player, a natural born leader who many looked up to as an athlete, scholar, and friend. He graduated as a proud Timberwolf Valedictorian from Tualatin High School in 2008. Following high school, Mick attended the University of Oregon. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Human Physiology from the University of Oregon in 2012.
Mick met his future wife, Meagan O’Donovan, in the summer of 2014 as he was preparing to begin medical school at Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon, Ore. In the spring of 2018, Mick and Meagan were married, he graduated from medical school with honors, and the two pursued his #1 ranked Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program at The Mayo Clinic.
Mick completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, embracing every new learning opportunity, forming valued friendships, and making the most of life in Minnesota with his wife and two dogs, Bailey and Winnie. Mick continued to pursue his dream further as he proudly matched into the Pain Medicine Fellowship at Mayo.
From a very young age, Mick was extremely empathetic and had an ability to love people that was incredible. His humor was his superpower, and he could make a room roll and cry with laughter. If you saw Mick on the dance floor, he was something to behold. Nothing was more important to Mick than spending time with his wife, family, and friends boating at the LBC, golfing, traveling, and experiencing life to the fullest. There was no one in this world that he loved more than his wife, Meagan, and they were both looking forward to becoming parents to their son, Jack, due in May.
Mick is survived by his wife, Meagan (O’Donovan) Bies; parents, Mike and Kathy (Dunn) Bies; brother, Denny Bies (Rachael); and sister, Jackie (Bies) Marsden (Sadbhuja). Mick was a dedicated uncle and took so much joy from his nieces and nephews: Braxton, Audrey, Connelly Bies, and Ruben Marsden.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 1 – 4 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Tualatin High School Gymnasium, 22300 S.W. Boones Ferry Road, Tualatin, OR 97062. Come as you are in casual attire, Timberwolf/Duck gear, or Hawaiian shirts encouraged.
