Ralph H. Jones, M.D. (S ’62)

Dr. Ralph H. Jones died this past week in Santa Fe, NM, where he had resided for 53 years.  Born in Marshall, he was the fourth of five children born to Floyd D. and Inez Huff Jones.  Ralph graduated from Marshall High School and Missouri Valley College, enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was sent to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, obtaining his MD in 1946.  He married the love of his life, Mary Louise Hains (daughter of the former editor of the Democrat News), in 1944.  After the service, he returned to Missouri and was in General Practice in Sweet Springs and Marshall, where he cofounded what is now the Marshall Medical Clinic.  In 1958, he was accepted as a Surgical Fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  Upon graduation, he moved his family to Santa Fe, NM where he resided until his death.

He was predeceased by all of his siblings, his wife of 64 years, Mary, and a granddaughter, Lisa Verardo.  He is survived by daughters, Carolyn Minton (Tom) of Santa Fe, NM; Suzanne Verardo (Art) of Albuquerque, NM; and son, John L. Jones (Janice) of Albuquerque, NM; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery.  Memorial donations “In Memory of Dr. Ralph H. Jones” may be made to St. Vincent’s Hospital Foundation, PO Box 2107, Santa Fe, NM 87504.
