Dinapoli, Robert P. 83, passed away on October 14, 2016. Born in Palo Alto, CA in 1933, he graduated from Palo Alto High School and Stanford University. In 1958, Dr. Dinapoli received his M.D. degree from the Stanford School of Medicine. After an internship at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, Robert (Bob) began his internal medicine residency, followed by a neurology residency at Mayo Clinic. Later, as part of the Mayo Neurology Department, he helped establish the neuro-oncology subspecialty group, known for diagnosing and treating some of the rarest and most challenging conditions of the brain and nervous system. As a physician, he taught medical students and residents, researched emerging treatments for brain tumors, and guided patients through life-threatening diagnoses. He retired from full-time practice in 1999. In his private life, Bob loved history, woodworking, sailing, performing Dixieland jazz, Stanford Cardinal athletics and SF 49’ers football, Bob also passionately supported the academic, athletic, and artistic activities in which his grandchildren participated. He was preceded in death by his sister Constance McCallum and survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Anne, his daughters Constance (Andrew) O’Sullivan, Carolyn (Bruce) Leslie, Susan Dinapoli (Scott Flemming), and his nine grandchildren; Connor, Drew, Anna, Olivia, Cameron, Christopher, Andrew, Lucas, and Cordelia with whom he shared abundant joy and humor. The family extends their gratitude to the staffs of Charter House and Mayo Hospice for their abiding support and care.
