Ronald Olin, M.D. (I ’64)

Dr. Ronald Olin, 83, Fargo, ND passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Elim Care Center, Fargo. He was born on March 17, 1935 to William “Bill” and Edith (Greenberg) Olin at Winnipeg, Canada. Ronald grew up in north Winnipeg during the Great Depression.

He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1952 with the Governor General’s Medal for general proficiency. He graduated from the University of Manitoba School of Medicine in 1959 with M.D. and B.S.C. (Med.) degrees. He then interned at Winnipeg General Hospital (Health Sciences Center) from 1959-1960. Ronald entered the Mayo Foundation, Rochester, MN in 1960 as a fellow in Internal Medicine until 1964. He then joined the Fargo Clinic from 1964 until his retirement in 1988. He worked in the Internal Medicine and Immediate Care departments. He was slowed by illness.

Ronald enjoyed medical writing and published 39 articles. He liked traveling to Winnipeg, walking and biking. One of his hobbies was collecting and writing about old postcards. His collections were donated to the Institute for Regional Studies at NDSU, Concordia College archives, the Clay County Historical Society, the Northwestern Historical Society and to the Plains Art Museum.

He is survived by his brother, Philip (Doris) Olin; and niece, Dr. Rebecca (Dr. Collin Blakely) Olin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials preferred to the Mayo Clinic for any research purposes.
