MANGER–William Muir, MD, PhD, Professor of Clinical Medicine died peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 103. He was born in Greenwich, CT on August 13, 1920. He was graduated from St. Albans School in Washington, DC. After graduating from Yale University, he graduated from Columbia Physicians and Surgeons from which he received the award for distinguished achievements in clinical medicine. He was a Naval Officer from 1942 – 1949. In 1950 he became a Fellow at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN where he earned his PhD and received the Distinguished Alumni Award. In 1973 he and his siblings sold the Manger Hotel Chain where he served as Vice Chairman. In 1977 he founded the National Hypertension Association where he was Chairman until 1997. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lynn (Sheppard); his sons William, Jr., Stewart, and Charles, his daughter, Lilian Fleming, son-in-law Porter Fleming and three grandchildren.
