S. Ann Colbourne, M.D., has children’s playroom at NorQuest College named in her honor
S. Ann Colbourne, M.D. (I ’93, ADGM ’94), has had a children’s playroom named in her honor in the new 1000 Women Child Care Centre in the Singhmar Centre for Learning at NorQuest College in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The 1000 Women: A Million Possibilities fundraising campaign raised money to support the programming and infrastructure needs of NorQuest College, where 63 percent of the student population is female. Dr. Colbourne is a member of the 1000 Woman Advisory Committee.
Dr. Colbourne doesn’t have children of her own but says: “It has always amazed me that women, in particular, are able to keep the family going, raise children and contribute in a very meaningful way to the workplace. It takes incredible fortitude and commitment. Sometimes a helping hand goes a long way.”
Dr. Colbourne is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Alberta. She retired from her position as senior medical director of Culture, Transformation and Innovation for Alberta Health Services earlier this year. She also is a member of the Mayo Clinic Alumni Association Board of Directors.
