Update to Cologuard story in Mayo Clinic Alumni magazine
The most recent issue of Mayo Clinic Alumni magazine features a story about Cologuard, a noninvasive stool DNA test to check for colorectal cancer, co-developed by David Ahlquist, M.D. (MED ’77, I ’80, GI ’83), Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
At the time the issue went to press, the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) had not yet fully recommended Cologuard, and Mayo Clinic leadership had asked the USPSTF to reconsider its decision.
Since then, the USPSTF issued its formal colorectal screening guidelines for 2016, and fully recommends Cologuard along with colonoscopy and several other screening exams.
